How has Facebook changed you?

by abha on December 22, 2010

I was never a person very good at staying in touch with people even though they touched me in many ways and changed my life. So as I grew up I lost contact with friends who meant so much to me. Their memories remained but work, family, children and other engagements always came first and one did not make an effort to locate these friends. For me Facebook was a very special gift for it helped me to get in touch with a girl I thought was the prettiest in grade 5, it helped see what happened to the naughtiest boy in my school, it made it possible to locate a long lost friend with whom I had spend hours chatting away to glory during my high school…this networking tied up loose ends in some relationships left open for years. It brought a closure and a sense of peace and calm for I was able to retrace my steps to almost all those who had mattered in some way in my life.

And it doesn’t end here. Facebook can now be used effectively by businesses to connect with their customers and build a long lasting relationship. This is the only way ahead.

Hi Abha,

Yes, I agree that Facebook has changed us.

I got contacted by the little boy who was Joseph & I was Mary, which was lovely. I’d just had the picture of us plastered on the wall for my hen do a couple of years ago, so it had been in my mind!

I’ve also found it useful for keeping connected, via my page, with local business mums who are doing well with websites and are selling on Facebook too.

Connecting people has got to be good, even if people say it’s sucking our time! It’s a bit like a revolution – social media isn’t it?!

Hi Wendy,
Thank you for your comment. I absolutely agree that it is a revolution, one which is here to stay and it is up to us how well we use it.

Hi Wendy/Sumi,

What a great blog. And so succinctly presented. Well done. I particularly like the parallel between personal use of Facebook and the use businesses, large and small, can make of it.
Just as we, as individuals, can make connections with long-lost friends, businesses can make connections with customers, near and far AND Facebook can represent a great, inexpensive tool to connect with new customers or, why not, re-connect with old ones that they thought were lost.
